Reclaiming Our Public Park

Good Idea!!!
Outrageous that a few private citizens have usurped public lands, and worse yet if its unauthorized use (marina?!) has been environmentally unsound among wetlands.
I noted your grass roots efforts to preserve and enhance access to Reed’s Lake. Well done! As a former Michigander who used to enjoy the beautiful evenings at Reed’s Lake, I am glad to see that you are leading the way to keep it open for “Joe and Jane Public.”
It’s about time this park was opened up to be enjoyed by all, instead of an elite few.
I can’t believe this! Who do they think they are? I have been there and never went past the gate – I thought they owned it! Now I think I’ll just take a little walk over there with my dog. What nerve.
I like the lake. I don’t have a dog but I think I’ll get one.
I’m going to go over there tonight with my dog, my date, my children, a package of hot dogs, a bottle of wine, my guitar, some firewood, and a pack of matches and I’m going to settle in to enjoy the sunset in this beautiful PUBLIC park.
In the past I’ve tried to go plein aire painting at this piece of property only to be told that it was private property and I was not welcome there. Hopefully this will not be the case in the future.
I think it’s great that these “Friends” are trying to make this park land available to the public. But wait – if it’s already a park, why do they have to fight to gain access for us?! Because 1) this group of locals who hangs out there often wants to keep it exclusively for themselves, and 2) Grand Rapids Township, who owns the land on behalf of us meager citizens, won’t take a stand. I know there are other parks in the area that “regulars” hang out at, but they’ve never tried to claim an area as their own and kick people out (at least not without getting in trouble!). I also have had WPA people try to kick me out of this public park, and that’s just nasty.
I would really like to know why the Township won’t protect my rights as a Township citizen to this park. If this is their attitude, maybe we can all go build recreational buildings and storage sheds and have bonfires on the park behind the Township offices!
